The monochromatic piece reflects Aleksandra Jachtoma’s interest in the issues of colour space, the possibilities of ‘translating’ paint and time into a painting, light into geometry. The artist explores the richness of one colour within its broad spectrum, creating the impression of an optical illusion and a spatial depth of the painting. Using traditional painting materials and tools (paint, brushes) and sophisticated methods involving tonal differentiation of a selected colour, she reveals the infinite possibilities of primary colours and their derivatives — in this case red. Completely devoid of figurative elements and references to the material world, the painting explores issues of visual perception. The spiritual element perceived in it does not make literal references to any particular philosophical or religious system.
