Made from plant fibre, Plait is an early piece by Iza Tarasewicz, made shortly after her graduation. What is significant is the material from which it is made — natural and ordinary — as well as its hand-formed shape. The piece took the form of an imprint of a human head with cascading, twisted locks of hair. The artist used it to reflect on materiality — the ambiguous boundary between the animate and the inanimate, the human and the non-human.
