Sawicka’s work took the form of ‘advertisements’ published in the highcirculation
Co Jest Grane cultural supplement to the Poznań edition of
the Gazeta Wyborcza daily (19–24 March 2005). It was created for The
Time of Culture exhibition at the Arsenał Municipal Gallery in Poznań
(2005). Combining text and photos, the advertisements do not promote
a specific cultural event, but generally encourage potential consumers to
experience contemporary art. Cultural Advertisements represent the artist’s
interest in language and the use of newspaper headlines and advertising
to communicate their ambiguous content in a concise way. According to
the slogans contained in Sawicka’s advertisements, one should test ‘good,
beautiful, andaccessible’ contemporary art in good galleries.
