The composition of the painting is well thought out and cleared of unnecessary detail, while the clear contours and flat colour fields resemble a poster. The frame for the presented scene is a black curtain, like in a theatre, which is formed by the hair of the woman in the foreground. The inspiration for the painted scene was a real situation and Agata Bogacka’s relationships with those close to her; however, the combinations of motifs are based on a surrealist game of associations. The presented scene is understated and marked by an emotional tension. Using a sparse painting language, the artist has depicted her feelings: sadness, longing, and a sense of being unfulfilled.
