Zachęta is us: the team, the artists, the audience. For years we have 
been creating an open and accessible place, sensitive to the issues of 
the present. A space for discussion and community building.

Today, when arbitrary decisions are made about the gallery's future, our 
voice – the demand to hold a competition for the position of its 
director – is not being heard.

For several years in Poland, an ongoing attack on culture has been 
underway, and more and more institutions succumb to it. As a result of 
political games, programmes built over decades are destroyed, to the 
detriment of the employees and creators, but above all, it's society 
suffers for it. Zachęta is visited by hundreds of people every day, 
thousands weekly, and tens of thousands annually – these are people who 
want to experience contemporary art in all its manifestations. They must 
not be ignored
