The Zachęta collection

A painting from the later period of the artist’s work, in which he continued his search in the field of geometric abstraction. Stażewski aimed to limit the artistic language, “to narrow the problem to only one solution – repeating one form in various systems”.

The work fits perfectly into the series of sculptures in which the artist increasingly combined autobiographical motifs with her interest in new materials.

In her works, the artist sought after the greatest possible synthesis of the human body and landscape elements, showing them in a characteristic derealization.

The work in the form of a bird feeder, showing a model of the Zachęta building in a scale of 1: 100, was created for the first edition of the Views exhibition (2003) as a functional utility object.

In the works prepared for the exhibition at Zachęta (2011), the artist addresses the problem of censorship in Polish art after 1989. In the serigraphy from the Anti-collage series, she recalls the famous action of peeling potatoes.

We have rediscovered the dreamlike, surreal painting of Maria Anto thanks to the 2017 exhibition. This is one of the most nostalgic paintings by the artist in our collection.

The penultimate edition of Views (2019) brought the main prize to Dominika Olszowy. The Zachęta collection includes an installation by the artist Peep Show – created for the exhibition at Raster gallery, it focused on “the intimate relationship between art and vodka”.

The artist won the competition in 2015. A sculptor, author of installations and performer, in her objects she blurs the boundaries between artificial and natural.

The series of collages made of banknotes reveals complicated market dependencies. This is one of two works in the Zachęta collection by Konrad Smoleński – the winner of the 2011 edition of the competition.

Recipient of the second prize at the Views 2005 was Anna Orlikowska – photographer, author of videos and installations. Danse macabre, a triptych touching the problem of passing and death, was created in 2004.

The newest sculptural aquisition to our collection!

The replicas of paintings used by the artist in his installation from 1997 were part of  the Zachęta’s collection before World War II.

From our collection we present a work from the early 1970s by Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz – a great example of a metal sculpture.
