The Field of Play / Le terrain de jeu
28.05 – 31.07.2011 The Field of Play / Le terrain de jeu
Zachęta National Gallery of Art
artists: Michael Dans, Messieurs Delmotte, Laurent Impeduglia, Xavier Mary, Benoit Platéus, Frédéric Platéus, Boris Thiébaut oraz duet Denicolai & Provoost
curator: Magda Kardasz
co-operation: Katarzyna Kołodziej
The exhibition presents works by contemporary artists from Brussels and Liège – sculpture, painting, performance and films – and came about thanks to curatorial study visits to these cities. The review in Zachęta has the aim of presenting to the Polish public interesting artists from the young generation and the range of artistic styles they use: from minimalism, abstract, or “cosmic” projects, sometimes including references to classical engravings or the poetics of street-art, to Dadaist games or works ironically reflecting reality, noting grotesque elements of human existence.
The artists invited to take part in the exhibition are: Michael Dans, Messieurs Delmotte, Laurent Impeduglia, Xavier Mary, Benoit Platéus, Frédéric Platéus, Boris Thiébaut and the duet Denicolai & Provoost. The artists’ works enter into a constructive dialogue or raucous conflict with one another, thus creating the Field of Play referred to in the title.
During the opening, a performance by Frédéric Platéus and Messieurs Delmotte is planned, along with a concert by Cédric Stevens of music composed especially for Xavier Mary’s sculptural installation.
