Elements of modernist architecture provide Monika Sosnowska with a lexicon of basic forms from which she draws. These include doors, handles, corridors, facades, floors, railings, ceilings, stairs and walls. The artist arranges these elements in various combinations, distorting and crushing them to create ruins that resemble the skeletons of prehistoric animals. She starts by making a small, delicate paper model, and then works with specialists: engineers, welders and locksmiths to scale up her ideas.

The process of turning modernism into ruins can also be observed on a smaller scale. The sculpture T is a T-piece, a basic element of large, durable constructions, bent at a right angle. Here it has been subjected to a force that exceeds its strength limits, undermining its function while giving the impression of the softness and lightness of the material.
