Katarzyna Józefowicz uses paper to create intricate, multi-element works that address universal questions about emotions, the passage of time and our relationship to the space around us. One of her frequently used motifs is the word. It appears naturally — emerging from the material, such as cut-up newspapers — or becomes the subject of the work itself. This is the case with the installation Between Words, which is made up entirely of everyday words (the letters are based on the artist’s handwriting). Snippets of advertising slogans, fragments of conversations and excerpts from books form a thought cloud floating above the viewer.
