Architecture and Power. Around th 14th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice
An Afternoon of Lectures and Discussions with the Participation of Ole Bouman.
In the context of this year’s Architecture Biennale in Venice curated by Rem Koolhaas and the exhibition in the Polish Pavilion “Impossible Figures”, we warmly invite you to a debate on the theme of the connections between architecture and politics in the last century. Although power was exercised by very different – less or more visible – subjects and institutions, it nonetheless continually needed to express itself in a physical, spatial manifestation. We want to investigate the ambivalent relations between architecture and instances of power in the period proposed by Rem Koolhaas: 1914–2014, beginning in the birth of modernism and ending today. The work and statements of the curator can serve as interesting starting point for a critical exploration of the state of contemporary architecture. It is for this reason that we have invited Ole Bouman, the long-term director of NAi and co-founder with Koolhaas of the influential magazine Volume. We count on a lively discussion!
