Academic conference accompanying the exhibition “Map. Artistic Migrations and the Cold War”
The object of the session’s considerations will be cultural policies in the early post-war years of the Polish People’s Republic, their realization and their confrontation with reality. The aim of the session will be the attempt to inscribe the phenomena presented at the exhibition in a wider context, in particular in relation to other countries of the former Eastern Bloc and their relations with the West. A particularly important element will be the artistic connections and exchanges with France in the 1940s and early 1950s. Participating in the session will be art historians particularly involved in the art and artistic criticism of the given period, researching the relations between East and West. Amongst the invited participants will also be outstanding art historians from abroad.
