We invite you to the screening of the new film essay by Mieke Bal It's About Time! Reflections of Urgency (2020), made in cooperation with professors and students of Film School in Łódź. The screening will be followed by a meeting with the author, hosted by Kuba Mikurda (in English).

Mieke Bal — cultural theorist and critic, video artist. In the years 2005–2011 she was professor at Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Based at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA), University of Amsterdam. Areas of interest range from biblical and classical antiquity to 17th century and contemporary art and modern literature, feminism and migratory culture. Her many publications include A Mieke Bal Reader (2006), Travelling Concepts in the Humanities (2002) and Narratology (4th edition 2017).  Mieke is also a video artist, her internationally exhibited documentaries on migration include Separations, State of Suspension, Becoming Vera and the installation Nothing is Missing and are part of the Cinema Suitcase collective. With Michelle Williams Gamaker she made the feature film A Long History of Madness, a theoretical fiction about madness, and related exhibitions (2012). Her following project Madame B: Explorations in Emotional Capitalism, also with Michelle, is exhibited worldwide. She just finished a feature film and 5-screen installation on René Descartes and his infelicitously ending friendship with Queen Kristina of Sweden.

Kuba Mikurda — film director, film scholar, head of the Institute of Arts Studies and the Essay Film Studio at the Łódź Film School. He worked as a film critic, journalist and publisher (Canal+, Ha!art, Krytyka Polityczna). He published Nie-całość. Žižek, Dollar, Zupančič (2015), and has edited, Wunderkamera. The Cinema of Terry Gilliam (2011) and Boro, l'ile d'amour. The Films of Walerian Borowczyk (2015, together with Kamila Kuc and Michal Oleszczyk).  In 2018 he made his film debut, a feature-length documentary Love Express. The Disappearance of Walerian Borowczyk, followed by Escape to the Silver Globe (2021) — both awarded the Chopin's Nose for the best documentary about music and art at the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival and also — in the case of Escape... — the cineclubs award and the award for best production in the Polish competition.
