Based on Stanisław Lem’s The Magellanic Cloud (1955), the Czechoslovak production deals with themes of alienation in outer space, confusion, self-doubt, and immersion in extreme sensations. The protagonist fights a duel with a machine, sometimes winning thanks to faith and intuition, at other times losing due to the machine’s unerringness.
