The film is a portrayal of the lives of three sisters, their families, friends, neighbours and neighbours’ neighbours. Although this motley crew includes murderers, porn fans and rapists, they appear at first sight as ordinary people...

The film was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.

“It is enough to see the opening scene, both meticulously acted and fumy, which shows a man and a woman after a failed date, to make the viewer moved and at the same time embarrassed. The film shows what lies beneath the bigoted folly and the facade of happiness”. (Wolfgang Tillmans)
