Memory is a multi–part, ephemeral puzzle that stores and organizes our memories and thoughts. Each piece creates our personal story by determining who we were, who we are and who we will become. What happens to a person when a piece of the puzzle is removed? Who do we become when we lose ourselves, when our knowledge about ourselves disappears forever? Who are we in a world that we no longer recognize and that no longer recognizes us. A person suffering from neurocognitive disorders experiences a slow loss of their identity. When we lose memory, we lose connection with our history, identity, and the world in which we are still living. The sense of time and space, logical thinking, memories and emotions disappear. The world and the people around it become strange, there is only the here and now. A void appears, which grows and absorbs the last flashes of memories. The presented project called “Disappearing” is an attempt to give an artistic expression to the process of memory loss and to create a space for discussion on the consequences of this
disappearance.
