Teresa Kelm, Zygmunt Krauze, Henryk Morel. “Spatial-Musical Composition”, text from exhibition catalogue
Warsaw: Galeria Współczesna, 1968

The project consists in composing a musical piece that is meant to be listened to exclusively in a space (an architectural structure) specifically designed for it.
The composition is made up of several distinct sound layers, each emitted by a separate speaker placed inside an acoustically isolated cabin. These layers sound simultaneously.
As the listener moves through the arrangement of cabins, they combine the individual sound layers into a cohesive whole.
The progression of the musical piece does not unfold in time before a passively seated audience, as in a concert hall.
Instead, the listener can shape the course of the composition in any way, depending on the path they choose and the amount of time they spend within the designed space.
Thus, the musical composition and the architecture form an integral whole and can only exist in relation to each other.
The architecture, like an instrument, becomes a condition for the performance of the piece.
A sequence of visual elements can be connected with the operation of the musical work.
This project includes a preliminary attempt at working with light.
As the viewer walks through the series of cabins, they experience not only the musical expressions but also a summation of visual impressions.
The further development of this idea was interrupted by the tragic death of Henryk Morel.

The previous program of the Contemporary Gallery, based mainly on exhibitions of painting, sculpture, and graphic art, also takes into account the increasingly broad range of artistic phenomena in which we observe the interpenetration and merging of visual art with other fields of creative activity.
Several months ago, the Gallery and a group of three artists agreed on the idea of realizing a joint work—combining elements of music and visual art—during the Warsaw Autumn festival.
This project was proposed by composer Zygmunt Krauze, interior architect Teresa Kelm, and sculptor Henryk Morel.
The unexpected death of Henryk Morel, one of the most outstanding artists of the young generation in Poland, meant that he could no longer participate in the detailed development and realization of the joint project.
